I have noticed despite adding Full Control rights to the subdirectories under C:\Program Files files with the extension LOG is not showing. TXT (Text) files and other file extensions are showing up fine. Is there a known restriction on the LOG extension under Vista? yours sincerely Craig Hoy

Hi, Thank you for your post. I performed a simple test on the issue and find I can save .log file in a subdirectory under Program Files. In the test, I run the following command in Command Prompt: ipconfig /all > %Program Files%\aa\ip.log. I would like to confirm the following points with you: 1. How is the .log file generated in the environment? 2. Can the .log file be generated? By default, when an application that is launched by standard user credential (not Run as Administrator) attempts to create a file to a system location like %Program Files%\(subdirectories), the file will be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore, this behavior is known as File Virtualization. As a result, please check if the .log file is redirected. Also, you may check the UAC-FileVirtualization log to see if there is any related events: 1. Click Start, type eventvwr in the Start Search box, and press Enter. 2. In the Event Viewer, expand Applications and Services Logs\Microsft\Windows\UAC-FileVirtualization, and click Opeartional.
